Everything you need to know before you book — honestly answered.
About the Tours
We keep groups small — typically between 6 and 12 people. This isn't a gimmick; it's the only way to move flexibly, access places larger groups can't, and have an experience that actually feels personal. We will never squeeze in extra people to fill a coach.
Every Tourio tour is led by one of our specialist guides — people who know their destination deeply, not generalists following a script. Shah, our founder, personally oversees every departure and leads many of them himself. You will always know exactly who is taking you before you book.
No. We do not hand you off to a local operator on the ground. The person who planned your trip is the person who goes with you. That is a core part of how Tourio works — and one of the things that sets us apart.
International flights are not included. We do this deliberately — it means you can choose your own airlines, departure dates and connections, and it keeps the tour price honest. We are happy to advise on the best routing and what to look for when booking.
Every tour is different, but generally included are: accommodation throughout, most meals, all in-country transport, entrance fees, and your guide. What is not included: international flights, travel insurance, visa fees, and personal spending. Each tour page lists exactly what's in and what's out.
We favour locally owned guesthouses, boutique hotels and lodges over international chains wherever possible. The places we stay are part of the experience — not just somewhere to sleep. Standards vary by destination and itinerary, and we will always be upfront about what to expect.
Absolutely. Many of our most memorable trips have been built from scratch around a specific destination, date or group. If you have a destination in mind, a group of friends or family, and a rough idea of what you want — get in touch and we will design something around you. Bespoke itineraries are one of our strengths.
Booking & Payment
There is no online booking engine — and that is by design. You start by sending us an enquiry, and one of our team will respond personally, usually within 24 hours. We will talk you through the trip, answer your questions and tailor things around your schedule before you commit to anything.
Yes. We typically ask for a deposit to secure your place, with the balance due closer to departure. The exact amounts and deadlines will be confirmed when we discuss your booking. We will always be clear about the payment schedule upfront.
Cancellation terms depend on how far in advance you cancel and the specific tour. We will always explain our cancellation policy clearly before you pay anything. We strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellation — for any reason.
Absolutely. Many of our travellers come alone and find it one of the best decisions they made. Single supplement options are available on most tours — just ask us and we will explain the options.
Practical Information
Yes — this is non-negotiable. We require all travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance before departure. It should cover medical emergencies, evacuation, trip cancellation and any activities on the itinerary (including trekking or wildlife activities where relevant). Do not travel without it.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality and destination. We will advise you on what is needed for your specific trip, but the responsibility for obtaining the correct visa rests with you. We recommend checking with the relevant embassy or consulate well in advance of travel.
It depends on the tour. Some of our trips involve long hikes and physical challenge; others are more relaxed. Each tour page is honest about the physical demands involved. If you are unsure whether a particular trip is right for you, just ask — we would rather have that conversation upfront than have someone struggle on the road.
We send a detailed kit list with every confirmed booking. In general: pack light, pack layers, and bring good walking shoes. For trekking tours, appropriate footwear and waterproofs are essential. Avoid overpacking — you will thank yourself on travel days.
Some of our tours work very well for families; others are better suited to adults. Get in touch and tell us the ages of the children and what kind of experience you are looking for — we will be honest about which tours fit and can sometimes adapt an itinerary for a family group.
